Prague Stock Exchange stagnates before public holiday

Prague, Oct 27 (CTK) - The Prague Stock Exchange (BCPP) stagnated today before Tuesday's public holiday, with the headline PX index losing a mere 0.05 percent to 2,352.82 points amid a below-average trading volume of around Kc460m, according to the bourse's website and analysts' statements.

The shares of Moneta Money Bank, Komercni banka and energy group CEZ did not fare well, while Erste Group Bank and Austrian insurer VIG prevented a bigger drop.

"Trading on the Prague Stock Exchange lacked a clear direction today, eventually closing slightly in negative territory, while Western European markets generally posted gains," said Wood&Company broker Tomas Hazucha.

"There will be no trading on the Prague Stock Exchange on Tuesday due to a public holiday," added Martin Singer, an analyst at Fio banka.

Komercni banka lost 0.94 percent to Kc1,051 during the day, Moneta fell by 0.67 percent to Kc178 and CEZ depreciated by 0.62 percent to Kc1,288. Engineering company Doosan Skoda Power weakened by 0.11 percent to Kc462 and tobacco company Philip Morris shed 0.22 percent to Kc18,000.

Beverage maker Kofola, metallurgical company Gevorkyan and solar power plant builder Photon Energy also closed in the red.

By contrast, Erste gained 0.74 percent to Kc2,032, VIG added 1.66 percent to Kc1,102 and arms maker Colt rose by 0.13 percent to Kc761.

"(Drone maker) Primoco shares repeated their relatively strong growth after Friday, gaining 7 percent to Kc1,070 today," Hazucha said.
