Prague bourse grows, with PX index returning above 2,500 points
Prague, March 25 (CTK) - The Prague Stock Exchange (BCPP) strengthened today after four consecutive losing days, with the PX index rising by 1.62 percent to 2,537.85 points, according to the bourse's website.
Most stocks gained, with insurer VIG adding nearly 5 percent and Erste Bank about 3 percent. Shares of arms manufacturer Colt CZ rose by almost 4 percent following the release of last year's financial results.
Activity remained below the long-term average, with shares worth approximately CZK570m traded today, Wood & Company broker Hoang Long Le told CTK.
"Western European stock exchanges gained significantly today after the USA offered a peace plan to Iran. In this positive sentiment, the Prague Stock Exchange also recovered part of its previous losses," Martin Singer of Fio banka said.
VIG shares rose by 4.81 percent to CZK1,524, Erste Bank gained 2.88 percent to CZK2,286, Moneta Money Bank increased by 0.86 percent to CZK188, and Komercni banka added 0.37 percent to CZK1,089. Energy group CEZ grew by 0.09 percent to CZK1,174.
Among smaller stocks, arms maker Colt CZ posted the highest gains, with its shares rising by 3.82 percent to CZK898. The company today released its financial results for last year, reporting revenues up 4.6 percent year-on-year to CZK23.398bn and a net profit exceeding CZK2.044bn, an increase of 95.7 percent compared with 2024. Shares of arms manufacturer CSG rose by 2.5 percent to CZK698.
Four stocks were in the red today. Shares of engineering company Doosan Skoda Power, tobacco firm Philip Morris, and metallurgical company Gevorkyan each fell by about 1 percent. Beverage maker Kofola declined by 0.11 percent.
