BCPP weakens further, PX at its lowest since last Nov

Prague, March 30 (CTK) - The Prague Stock Exchange (BCPP) continued to weaken at the start of the week, with the PX index falling by 0.49 percent to 2,470.45 points, its lowest close since the second half of November, dragged down mainly by bank stocks, according to data from the bourse's website.

Most titles posted losses. Only energy company CEZ closed with a slight gain.

"The Prague bourse continued the negative trend from the previous week and kept falling, while investors in Western European markets were largely optimistic today," said Barbora Zelena, a broker at Wood & Company.

Among banking stocks, Erste Bank fell by 1.02 percent to CZK2,227, Moneta Money Bank dropped 0.98 percent to CZK182, and Komercni banka declined by 0.37 percent to CZK1,070. Insurer VIG remained unchanged at CZK1,480.

The fifth-largest stock, CEZ, gained 0.17 percent to CZK1,169.

Among minor stocks, leather processor Karo Leather fell by 7.45 percent to CZK149, engineering firm Doosan Skoda Power dropped 3.31 percent to CZK380, and metallurgical company Gevorkyan lost 2.63 percent to CZK185.

Tobacco company Philip Morris weakened by 1.36 percent to CZK18,840, and beverage maker Kofola shed 1.42 percent to CZK452.

Arms maker CSG moderated the losses seen in previous days and closed today's session down 0.69 percent at CZK576. Arms manufacturer Colt CZ closed 0.11 percent weaker at CZK903.
