Urenco to keep supplying enriched uranium for Czech nuclear plants

Prague, Nov 7 (CTK) - British company Urenco will continue to supply enriched uranium for the production of fuel for Czech nuclear power plants, as Czech semi-state energy group CEZ has agreed with Urenco on cooperation at least until the mid-2030s, CEZ said today.

Another supplier of enriched uranium for Czech power plants is French company Orano.

Enriched uranium is a key element of fuel for nuclear power plants. Extending its cooperation with Urenco will give CEZ the security of multiple sources. According to the company, this will increase the safety of nuclear power plant operations in case one of the suppliers has, for example, an outage or other problems arise.

In the past, Russian TVEL was in charge of uranium enrichment for Czech nuclear power plants. CEZ also has more suppliers for the final fuel assemblies, which are provided by American company Westinghouse and French Framatome.
