CEZ's first large PV plant may stand at Tusimice coal fired plant
Ledvice, North Bohemia, Aug 22 (CTK) - The first large photovoltaic power plant of semi-state energy group CEZ could be built on the premises of the Tusimice coal-fired power plant, northern Bohemia, CEZ board member Jan Kalina told CTK today at the Ledvice coal-fired power plant.
The Ledvice plant has been operating a pilot photovoltaic power plant for a year and a half.
CEZ has committed to build six gigawatts of renewable energy sources by 2030, mostly photovoltaic power plants in Czechia. According to Kalina, nearly 50 percent of them will be built in the Usti Region, northern Bohemia.
The PV plants will be built on premises that are part of conventional power plants, Kalina said.
"We will start building the first, smaller (PV) plants this year, but the big one should start next year. These plants have received support from the Modernisation Fund," said Kalina, who is also the Chief Renewables and Conventionals Officer at CEZ.
In the construction of the planned renewable energy sources and their operation, CEZ will use employees of the supplier companies of miner Severoceske doly, which belongs to CEZ, Kalina said.
CEZ announced earlier it wants to become carbon-neutral by 2040, expecting this step to bring it higher independence and security of energy supplies.
